Shepherd of the Streets

Mission/Program Description:

Provides spiritual and material help to the disfranchised, disabled, rejected and fallen. We are an arm of the United Churches of Lycoming County. We do this by preaching the Good News, proclaiming freedom, recovery and release as well as counseling, spiritual direction, Rx assistance, documentation, bedding, baby diapers, etc, hygiene items, utility help, dental, audio and visual assistance, work preparedness, and transportation assistance.

Available Assignments:

Mostly at reception desk, organization of donations (hygiene items, diapers, bedding), general cleaning and helping people move.

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Must be over 18 (special school cases for course requirements are exempted)

  • Submit application and be interviewed

  • “Shadow” person at reception desk

  • Trial period varies depending on work done.

Application Process:

Call 322-6538 and ask for Ruth. Make an appointment to be interviewed and fill out volunteer forms, confidentiality forms, etc.
