Bi-County
Office of Aging The Office of the Aging supports individuals over 60 years of age, helping them preserve their independence and remain active in the community. Some of the services include: home delivered meals, transportation, congregate meals, socialization and recreation, health promotion, casework and assessment services, protective services, nursing facility and personal care home ombudsman services, information and referral, advocacy, homemaker and personal care services, home repair, and employment services. Lycoming County United Way funds are utilized in the home delivered meals (popularly known as Meals-On-Wheels) and congregate meals programs. The funds are used to purchase meals from Frey’s Commissary of Montoursville. All meals meet Federal Nutrition Guidelines. The home delivered meals program delivers a complete hot meal to persons age 60 and over, who are homebound and cannot cook for themselves. A caseworker visits people requesting the service to assess need and arrange for the service if they are determined to be in need of home delivered meals. Home delivered meals are distributed from our six Lycoming County Senior Community Centers. The meals are delivered by approximately 300 volunteers throughout Lycoming County. The meals are delivered Monday through Friday. This also provides a daily contact with many isolated Senior Citizens. Volunteers occasionally find a need and notify the Center Manager for appropriate follow-up. The home delivered meals program addresses the community needs of hunger, services for the disabled and senior support. Congregate meals are served at six Lycoming County Senior Community Centers. Anyone age 60 and over can eat a meal at our centers. We also provide a wide range of social, recreational and educational activities at the centers. We provide fitness and health programs such as exercise groups, flu shoots, blood pressure screening, diabetic screening, fall preventions, etc. The congregate meals program addresses the community needs of hunger, services for disabled and senior support.
