The Learning Center

The Learning Center (TLC) is a provider of adult education services under the umbrella of the Lycoming County Library System.  TLC provides reading, writing, and math through trained volunteers in the one-on-one tutoring program.  English language learning and civics is taught to legal immigrants who reside in the county. Family Literacy programming is targeted to the entire family and consists of four components:  Adult Basic Education or high school equivalency diploma instruction (GED), parenting classes, early childhood education and parent and child together time (PACT).  TLC staff provides all classroom instruction.   TLC provides services to those adults who read poorly enough that everyday life is difficult to navigate.  GED classes are available for the 25% of the adult population in the county that do not have a diploma or its equivalent.  Strengthening families and helping adults who have educational goals to attain them is at the core of what we do.  We have recently expanded to more class times and added small group instruction using volunteers to better meet the need of the target population.
