Children's
Development Center Physical Therapy focuses on a child’s basic movement, balance and coordination. Our physical therapists design individualized programs to develop and improve a child’s motion, strength, balance, mobility, and movement skills. Outpatient Physical Therapy referrals are received from families and physicians and community organizations. Physical Therapists from CDC also provide scoliosis screenings in area middle school. The Physical Therapy Department has also developed an aqua therapy program. Aqua therapy provides an alternative medium for children to expand movement without the interfering force of gravity. Individual sessions (one-to-one with the therapist and child and group sessions) have been formed. Occupational Therapy helps a child develop the fine motor skills needed for activities in daily life such as playing with toys, writing, and cutting with scissors. Therapists also teach alternative techniques and use of adaptive equipment to accomplish everyday tasks such as eating with utensils and dressing oneself. They work with children whose disabilities range from cerebral palsy to sensory integration dysfunction. Outpatient Physical Therapy referrals are received from area families and physicians and community organizations. Occupational Therapy programs include a six week summer Occupational Therapy Day Camp and a five week Handwriting Clinic. Specialty Clinics have been offered by the agency and have been an integral part of our operation and multidisciplinary approach since our inception. The Hershey Outreach Clinic: Dr. Lee S. Segal, a specialist in Pediatric Orthopedic medicine from Hershey Medical Center, with CDC Physical Therapist, Denise Lorson, and CDC support staff see 40 children six to eight times per year at the Hershey Outreach Clinic located within Muncy Valley Hospital.
