American Red Cross
Disaster Services

The American Red Cross Disaster Services program is mandated by Congress to provide emergency service to victims of disaster.  The target population includes anyone who has the misfortune of a disaster.  Emergency lodging is provided when homes are uninhabitable to live in, due to fire, hazardous materials, or weather related events.  On an as needed basis, clothing, food, infant supplies, bedding, and linens, life dependent medications, eye glasses, dentures, and prosthesis are provided to affected individuals.  Rental support and other minor repairs are available through Red Cross emergency assistance to help individuals recover from a disaster.  This Chapter also provides referrals to other agencies for increased support.

The Northcentral PA Chapter has initiated a new pager system to notify staff and key volunteers for immediate response.  The communication system has shortened the response time tremendously during a local disaster.  Red Cross is on the scene, providing assistance to victims and emergency personnel.
