2010 KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION DATES

Since late in 2007, Lycoming County United Way has been the administrator of a grant from the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (a state agency) through the Central Regional Key at STEP, Inc. to implement programs that prepare children to succeed in school.

Studies show quality early childhood education is critical to lifelong success. About 90% of our brains develop before we reach kindergarten. What children experience before age five can affect the way their brains develop. Because of this, a parent is a child's first and best teacher.

Stock_Education_Toddler.jpgThese efforts are overseen by Jennifer Bolich, Early Childhood Education Coordinator at Lycoming County United Way. Jennifer coordinates the Lycoming County Community Engagement Group (CEG) comprised of 43 local agencies involved in early learning efforts. The goals of the CEG are to inform the community about the importance of successful early learning and to involve all members of the community in the effort. The CEG hosts and participates in numerous events such as PA One Book Readings, family/children's/health fairs, and kindergarten readiness programs throughout Lycoming County to engage community leaders, educators, parents, families, and children in the process.

The CEG also produces a comprehensive annual "Report Card to the Community" to showcase children's education services available in the county, program summaries, and CEG accomplishments.

For more information, please contact Jennifer by phone at 570-323-9448 or e-mail.
